Is blast cleaning necessary before powder coating or painting?
Yes, it is highly recommended. Blast cleaning strips away hidden corrosion, oils, and failing previous coatings while creating a microscopic “profile” (roughness) on the metal. This profile is essential for the new paint or powder coating to bond securely and last for years.
Will blast cleaning damage my metal items?
Not when handled by professionals. We carefully select the abrasive media and adjust the pressure based on the specific material and condition of your item, ensuring we remove rust and old paint without altering the underlying metal.
How should I transport my items to you, and how quickly will they rust afterward?
Items should be completely stripped of any non-metal parts (like rubber seals or wooden slats) before arrival. Because freshly blasted metal is highly susceptible to flash rusting from moisture in the air, we strongly recommend booking your coating or priming service to happen immediately after blasting.
